Tara Moffatt is from Ontario and is currently working as an Advanced Practice Nurse- Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care and as a Palliative Pain and Symptom Management Consultant in North Eastern Ontario. Throughout the over 20 years she has been working in health care, Tara has dabbled in all things nursing including clinical practice, teaching, research and system level planning at the local, regional, provincial, national and international levels. Tara holds both dual specialist certifications in Hospice Palliative Care as well as Oncology from the Canadian Nurses association; is a Canadian Nurses Association Certification Mentor for nurses wishing to pursue their Hospice Palliative Care National Certification; is a current member of the Canadian Palliative Care Nurses Association Professional Practice Committee and the Pan Canadian Palliative Care Research Collaborative. One of her most challenging and fulfilling career ventures thus far has been her membership to the Provincial Palliative Care Consultant Network where she currently sits as one of the executive members. Truthfully, the most rewarding part of her career has been the people she has met and the relationships she has made. Tara’s home life is the most beautiful kind of chaos with her awesome husband Mike whom she has been best friends with since she was 17 years old. Tara also has three amazing teenage-ish humans who utterly cringe at the number air high-fives their mother gives out on a daily basis!
Katie Hennessy, from BC, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative and End‑of‑Life Care with Island Health and has the privilege of being born and raised on the traditional, unceded lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples and the W̱SÁNEĆ Nation on Vancouver Island. Katie’s nursing career has been grounded in oncology and palliative care, including many years with BC Cancer, where she developed a deep commitment to compassionate, person‑centred care for patients and families facing serious illness.
In her current role, Katie supports clinicians and teams across the health system to strengthen palliative and end‑of‑life care practices, with a focus on quality improvement, systems change, and equitable access to care. She is particularly passionate about advocacy, interdisciplinary collaboration, and creating conditions that enable both patients and clinicians to thrive within complex healthcare environments.
Katie is a strong advocate for equity‑oriented care and brings a health systems lens to her work, translating evidence into practice and supporting sustainable change at both the clinical and organizational levels. Outside of work, she can often be found enjoying lakes, beaches, and time at the cabin. She is the proud parent of two young adults and remains deeply motivated by the privilege of supporting people through some of life’s most meaningful moments.
