CPCNA Position Paper 2026: The role of palliative care in undergraduate nursing education

The role of palliative care in undergraduate nursing education has long been a priority issue for the CPCNA. It is rooted in our shared belief that palliative care is not just a specialty context; when we integrate palliative care principles in our practice, we become better nurses.

In June, CPCNA held two discussion sessions with CPCNA members to inform our next position statement on this topic. We welcome perspectives from students, educators, clinicians, nursing leaders, and researchers. if you missed these sessions, and have comments you wish to make on this topic please contact CPNCA  Research Director,  Marianne Sofranas at cpcnaresearch@gmail.com

This years annual lecture by Dr. Papaiz’s was a wonderful primer for our next Position Statement on The role of palliative care in undergraduate nursing education.

If you were unable to attend the Annual Lecture for Hospice Palliative Care Week and Nurses Week, the recording is now available on our Past Webinars page.

This year, we were honored to host Dr. Vivian Papaiz, PhD, RN, CPHCN (c) RNAO ACP Fellow, who delivered a wonderful presentation titled: "Every Nurse, Every Setting: The Case for Palliative Care Education in Undergraduate Nursing.”

We look forward to your contribution.
